The French men’s hockey team have been drawn against the Spain men’s hockey team, in what is the final chance for teams to qualify for the Olympics.
Spain and France last met at the 2018 World Cup in India, where they drew a parity score (1 – 1).
The French have a only one goal: the qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. A dream that the French have been chasing for 48 years.
Coach Jeroen Delmee stated that the challenge for the French team will be daunting because Spain is eighth in the world, and are coming off the tournament with a fantastic EuroHockey championship silver finish.
“Spain is a difficult opponent. It is a well structured team, with a good balance, and powerful on PCs. They are in shape with a nice second place at the European Championship. It will not be easy but we have our chances!”.
To better prepare for this deadline, Jeroen Delmee and his staff have planned an intensive program to prepare the team in the best conditions.
The Italian team will play preparatory test match against the Irish team on October 1 and 2 in Bordeaux.
Then, they will confront the Belgians, World Champions and European Champions in title, on October 8 in Lille metropolis. And to perfect this preparation, they will face the Netherlands at home.
