Since the start of the corona crisis, the Royal Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB) has followed the guidelines of RIVM and the advice of the Ministry of VWS and NOC * NSF.
Following the press conference on 21st April 2020, the KNHB board has decided to end all competitions of the 2019-2020 season. This decision also concerns the youth competitions.
The KNHB has also determined what this means for the competitions of the next season. The senior classifications are usually based on promotion and relegation schemes based on the league played in the previous season.
Now that the current competitions are not being played out, the KNHB board has made the following decisions:
The competitions are not considered completed. No champions are declared and no promotions or relegations are made;
The next season will start with the classifications among the seniors as the 2019-2020 season has started. This decision applies to all senior teams, both the standard teams – including the Dutch Major League and the Livera Dutch Major League – and all other teams (with the exception of a number of competitions where a full competition had already been completed during the 2019-2020 season);
For youth, the pre-league 2020-2021 formats are based on the composition of the teams for the coming season and the rating values that each player brings individually from the last fully played league played by the player during the 2019-2020 season until the autumn break or winter break has been played;
As usual, associations can submit requests to adjust the classifications of all senior competitions (reserve, young senior and veterans). There is no room for this within the competitions for standard teams. As with other years, it is not possible to submit requests for these teams;
The European Hockey Federation (EHF) has indicated that it wants to play the Euro Hockey League (EHL) of 2020 at a later time in 2020. This means that HC Bloemendaal, SV Kampong Hockey (both Men), Amsterdamsche H. & BC and HC ‘s-Hertogenbosch (both Women) will play the 2019-2020 edition. All mentioned teams were already qualified for this. In the unlikely event that the EHL 2019-2020 cannot be completed, these teams will keep their places and they will play in the 2020-2021 edition. If a third men’s team from the Netherlands is also allowed to participate in this edition, Men 1 from HC ‘s-Hertogenbosch will receive this ticket. This third ticket has been awarded based on the score of March 8, 2020. Earlier, HGC Men 1 was already eliminated during the current tournament. If the EHL 2019-2020 is played out as indicated by the EHF, the KNHB has decided as follows for the 2020-2021 edition based on the positions on March 8, 2020:
Tickets EHL season 2020-2021 Men
1. HC Bloemendaal
2. HC ‘s-Hertogenbosch
The KNHB will help the clubs with a protocol appropriate to the current measures and specific hockey formats to enable hockey in the clubs in a safe and responsible manner as from 28 April.
This now applies in the first instance to the two youth target groups (up to and including D youth and from C to A youth, including the 1.5 meter distance).
The associations will receive more information about this as soon as possible.
