The Indian men’s hockey team suffered a defeat at the hands of Belgium in the first semi-final of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 at Oi Hockey Stadium North Pitch today.
Belgium defeated India 5-2 in the semi-final and they will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and Germany in the gold medal match on August 5.
On the other hand, India will lock horns in the bronze medal match same day with the loser of Australia vs Germany semifinal match.
India had a dominant start but then faltered in the second half of the match. Their goals came from Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh.
Belgium scored a hattrick of goals courtesy of Alexander Hendrickxx, Loick Luypaert. John John Dohmen to secure their win.
Though they have reached this far, the Indian team has nothing to lose as it has achieved the target of reaching the semifinals.
India will now fight for the bronze.
