The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) have confirmed both Australia’s boys’ and girls’ hockey teams will compete at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
Both Australian boys’ and girls’ sides comfortably won their Youth Olympic Oceania Qualifiers which were played in Port Moresby from April 25-28 in the Hockey 5’s format.
Hockey Australia Chief Executive Matt Favier said: “We’re delighted to have both boys’ and girls’ teams admitted to compete at the 2018 Youth Olympics by the AOC.
“Hockey has a proud history at the event, with our boys’ team having won the two previous gold medals at the Youth Olympics.
“The Youth Olympics offer a wonderful experience for our next generation of Kookaburras and Hockeyroo and we’re thrilled that this group of athletes will get this opportunity.”
The 2018 Youth Olympics will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 6-22.
Australia’s boys’ and girls’, coached by Ben Bishop and Tim White respectively, are expected to be announced in August.
