Huge blow to the Belgium Women’s Hockey team, as Anouk Raes has decided to say goodbye to international hockey.
An injury at the last World Cup hockey tournament in London in July 2018 was the cause of her decision.
National Coach Niels Thijssen said he respects Anouk’s decision.
“Anouk is a great player, who has had an outstanding international career. Whether on or off the field, she has for many years played a leading role in the development of Belgian women’s hockey, bringing it to the current level, ” he said.
Following the disappointment of the non-qualification at the Rio 2016, Anouk took her responsibilities as captain.
Since then she has been actively helping to rebuild an ambitious program, which has led to the recent elevation of the Red Panthers to the world’s top-10.
A technically gifted player, the Olympian represented Belgium 281 times having debuted in 2012 at the Winter Olympic Games in London.
