Dragflick Newsdesk : On 19 December, Sportpress (the Belgian professional association of sports journalists) gathered at the Sportgala 2021 in Schelle, to reward the Belgian sports personalities who have stood out in 2021. 6 prizes were awarded in 6 different categories: Sportsman, Sportswoman, Promise, Team, Coach and Paralympic of the Year 2021.
Belgian hockey was also involved in two categories: the Team of the Year where our Red Lions were nominated, in addition to the Belgian Cats (basketball) and the Jumping team (equestrian).
In the Coach of the Year category, we found Shane McLeod, Roger Lespagnard (athletics) and Felice Mazzu (football).
TEAM OF THE YEAR: RED LIONS AT THE TOP OF BELGIAN TEAM SPORT
The Red Lions have been voted best Belgian team of the year 2021, after a very successful year: winners of the Pro League, bronze at the European Championship and gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
A new trophy for our hockey players, which is the icing on a historic cake!
SHANE MCLEOD, COACH OF THE YEAR
Shane Mcleod has been crowned coach of the year 2021 by Belgian sports journalists, after his record year at the head of the Red Lions.
This award is the reward for the many hours of work, the sacrifices and the passion for Belgian hockey. Thank you, Shane, and one last time, good luck for the future!
