After playing preparatory matches against USA and Spain, the Canadian women’s hockey team will play three more fixtures in preparation for their Olympic Qualifiers.
One against Belgium in Belgium (9 and 10 October ), a second against Germany (22 October) in Germany and another one against Chile in Belgium (26 and 27 October).
Post the three prep-matches, Captain Kate Wright and her squad, currently ranked 15th in the world, will open their pre-Tokyo campaign by travelling to Dublin, Ireland to meet their final opponent, the Irish women’s hockey team.
Going on current world rankings, it will give Canada competitive pitch time and a confidence boost playing against the sixth ranked team in the world, Belgium, and fourth ranked team, Germany, ahead of the Qualifier.
It’s been amazing to see the way the Canadian team has performed in the last couple of months. Their runners-up finish at the FIH Series Finals in Valencia and the Pan American Games event in Lima showed that they have an excellent bench strength.
In the prep-match against the USA women, the Canadian team registered two wins and one draw. Against Spain they played two games, where they registered a draw in each of the matches.
World Ranked 8th, the Irish women’s hockey team, who are runners up of the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018, too have a series of matches lined up.
Ireland has already played prep matches against the Chinese women’s hockey team, and will next play against the German and Spanish team, ahead of the Qualifiers.
