Field Hockey is excited to announce the 2021 Women’s National Team roster for their November training tour to San Diego, California. The team will travel to the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Centre for a week of training and a series of matches against Team USA.
This training tour marks the first step in preparations for the 2022 World Cup, slated for July in Spain and Netherlands. This will be the team’s first tour under new bench-boss Rob Short. The two-time Olympian is looking forward to leading a hungry team through the fall/winter training block as they prepare to push for World Cup qualification. The 2022 Pan American Cup will take place in Santiago, Chile in January and will have three World Cup bids on the line in the Women’s division.
Canada’s roster is a mix of veteran experience and young talent. Stalwart defenders Karli Johansen, Sara McManus and Shanlee Johnston have 359 caps between them, while the goal scoring unit of Maddie Secco and Brienne Stairs made their national team debut in 2011. Natalie Sourisseau and Amanda Woodcroft will be holding down the midfield.
The touring roster also features a batch of young names looking to make their stamp on the senior national team. Fresh off a Junior Pan American gold medal, Anna Mollenhauer, Katie Lynes, Jordyn Faiczak, Sara Goodman, Thora Rae and Sam McCrory make the jump to the senior international level. Between them, they have 75 senior caps.
Canada will play five matches against USA. The last two will be officially capped matches. Stay tuned to Field Hockey Canada’s social media for match results and more information. Match schedule and touring roster below.
