Dragflick Newsdesk : After five years of coaching the German national women’s team, Xavier Reckinger is returning to top Belgian hockey. He becomes Coach Manager at the Royal Belgian Hockey Association. In this position he will work together with the staff of the U18 and U21 men, as well as guide the development of the Belgian ‘high potential’ players from U18 to U23.

Former Red Lion Xavier Reckinger played 326 international games for Belgium. Even during his international playing career, ‘Reck’ already coached the Belgian U15 and U16 boys. After that, he first became head coach of the Belgian U21 ladies and assistant with the Red Panthers, before starting in 2017 as national coach for the German women’s team.

Under his policy, “die Danas” climbed to third place in the world rankings, won two European silver medals and participated in the 2018 World Cup in London (5th place) and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (6th place ).

Adam Commens, High Performance Director of the KBHB:

“Xavier brings a wealth of knowledge with him on a technical and tactical level. Due to his vast experience on the international stage, he knows the level needed to achieve success at Olympic Games and World Championships. He is determined to pass that knowledge on to our aspiring coaches and high potential players. For Belgian hockey it is very important that talent continues to flow on both the men’s and the women’s side. ‘Reck’ will be an important part of our team to ensure we can continue our success until Paris 2024 and beyond.”

Xavier Reckinger:

“I am looking forward to this new appointment at the KBHB! I stopped at Germany because I wanted to spend more time with my family. This new challenge in Belgium will make this possible. In this new position, I will enthusiastically try to use the experience I gained in Germany to optimize the flow of Belgian talents in preparation for new Belgian successes in the future. After leaving the Belgian system for almost six years, I will now take the time to observe the current structure, before formulating a number of proposals sometime in the summer. I am considering combining this new position with an additional coaching job.
