Not even 2 weeks ago that the ÖHV had to take note of the decision to resign from Chris Faust as head coach of the women and U21s, with regret and completely surprising.
But the Austrian Hockey Association reacted quickly and immediately commissioned Peter Proksch, sporting director of the entire female area, with the search for a new coach – the first exploratory talks started immediately afterwards.
The solution was very close. Corinna Zerbs (born November 19, 1988), who ended her active career in February 2020 after 16 years and 144 international matches in the Austrian national team, was considered the preferred top candidate.
Corinna not only gained a lot of international experience as an active player, but has also been concentrating on a coaching career for several years – she has now acquired her A-coaching license in Germany.
She is the sporting director at SAFO Frankfurt and is responsible for the overall coordination in the female area for U14, U16 and U18. For the Hessen selection, she works as an assistant trainer for the U14 and U16 women and currently she has been employed as an assistant trainer for the U18w at the DHB.
When asked about the quick decision, Corinna says: “If I’m honest, I didn’t have to think twice when the ÖHV made me the offer – I just had to use this opportunity. For me it is a great honor for the national team as well Being able to support the trainer well. Chris has done an excellent job in the women’s field in recent years and I am following in big footsteps. I am aware of that. But for me it is also a very attractive task and an exciting start with 3 top tournaments in the hall: the U21 and women’s European championships and of course the world championships. ”
And what are the first steps? Corinna: “I have already had a few discussions with the existing supervisory staff. That all sounds good and I would like to take the positive energy with me for the next few months. My job at SAFO Frankfurt will continue and I am building on the good cooperation that it already has in the past. We will work out the goals in detail with the team. ”
We wish Corinna a lot of fun in the implementation of her new tasks and a successful future for the entire team.
