Day One of the FIH Series Finals in Banbridge saw Korea, France, Ireland and the Czech women make excellent starts to their respective campaigns.
The competition started with the intriguing meeting between the Korean women and the Ukraine women.
The Korean women who have entered the tournament as the second highest ranked team proved too strong for the Ukraine women’s hockey team and thumped them 5-0, taking all three points.
The Korean team will now face the Scottish team on 9th June.
The second match of the day saw France up against Scotland. It was France who emerged triumphant, claiming a 2-1 victory thanks to Perrine Seillier and Victorine Vankemmel.
This was a remarkable victory for world no.30 France to beat a stronger side. France next will face Ukraine on 9th June.
The third match of the day saw the hosts nation Ireland up against Malaysia. Ireland defeated Malaysia by a narrow 2-1 margin.
Ireland will next take on the Czech women while Malaysia will take on Singapore.
The fourth and final match saw the Czech Republic women clean sweep Singapore (5-0).
The FIH Women’s Hockey Final Series continues on Sunday 8 June with another packed day of top class hockey action.
Four matches will take place in Banbridge, with Ukraine getting things underway with France, before Scotland takes on Korea.
The third match will see the hosts nation Ireland taking on Czech women while the final match of the day sees Malaysia taking on Singapore.
