Penalty Corner Specialist and a veteran of 268 caps, Razie Rahim is looking to seal a final berth for Malaysia with a win against Austria in the semi final match of the men’s FIH Hockey Series Finals 2019 here in Malaysia.
While Malaysia who are playing at home, are placed at an advantageous position at present, looking at Austria’s form, one can expect the unexpected.
The hosts would not want to leave anything on chance and they would seek a comprehensive win today to cement their place, and qualify for the last round.
Going by records and form, Malaysia are hands down favourites to come out victorious against Austria.
But as we have witnessed with the World No.32, Italy upsetting Malaysia in their last Pool stage encounter, anything can happen in modern world hockey.
So, Malaysians will have to come out with a clear frame of mind and with just one goal — a comprehensive win against Austria and straight to the finals.
But, it would be easier said than done as the Austrians have improved tremendously over the years, which was visible in their game against Belarus and Wales who found it difficult to break their backline.
But Razie Razim said he was not in a mood to dwell in the past and said that the defeat against Italy has acted only as catalyst to do better on Friday.
“I am not thinking about what happened in the last match against Italy. Past failures are only learning experiences. My focus is only on the coming match. This match against Austria is a matter of survival. We just hope we do not waste any opportunity today.” Razie told the Dragflick.
Malaysia take on Austria today at 20:00hrs at the Bukit Jalil Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
