The Argentine Hockey Confederation received an invitation for the Leoncitas to play the Junior World Cup to be held in South Africa from December 5 to 16.
The International Hockey Federation made that decision by virtue of the national hockey history and the current world champion title that the Argentine team has in the category.
Argentina could not qualify for the Pan American Championship in Santiago, but, aware of the possibility that it became a reality, the coaching staff had continued training for the World Cup.
In the history of the Junior World Cups, Argentina has two titles: the 1993 one in Tarrassa and the one mentioned in 2016 with victories in the finals against Australia 2-1 and the Netherlands 4-2, respectively.
But, in addition, the Argentine selected teams have always occupied a place on the podium since 1993, with the exception of the 2005 World Cup in Santiago. Argentina was runner-up in Buenos Aires 2001 (defeat against Korea), Boston 2009 and Moenchengladbach 2013 (in both cases they lost the final before the Netherlands) and third in Seongnam 1997.
