Korea outplayed Egypt with top-class defence that saw them hold Egypt to a 2-2 draw in regulation time and beat them 3-0 in a shootout to enter the semi-finals of the FIH Series Finals tournament in Le Touquet.
Korea rode on goals through Lee Jungjun (28th minute) & Jung Manjae (60th minute) while Ahmed ABD Elhakim (31st minute) & Walid Metwalli (53rd minute) scored for Egypt.
With a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, the match went into a tense shootout.
While Korea have come into the tournament as favourites, Egypt too have been valiant with their performances specially in the match against Ireland.
However, breaching Korea’s razor-sharp defence was not possible for Egypt in this match.
Korea’s captain Lee Namyong said he is happy with the win and will look forward to the semi-final clash which is lined up against Ireland.
“We are happy. It was a very tough game. We need to prepare for the next game and continue to play better and better in every match.” Lee said.
Action in le Touquet-Paris-Plage continues tomorrow. Here’s how the team will play out:
