Women’s leadership in sports has reached another historic milestone with the International Hockey Federation (FIH) deciding to create a new Committee, namely the Women in Sports Committee.

The Committee will be chaired by EB member Marijke Fleuren (Netherlands) who is also a member of the IOC Women in Sport Commission.

Having a critical mass of women bodes well for an organisation’s performance, including the level of innovation believes Marijke.

‘Together’ will be their mantra to support equally women and men in achieving their goals as well on as off the field of play.

This is a welcome contribution to gender equality in the sport of field hockey and an important catalyst for change.

An independently appointed chair and a significant proportion of independent directors would go a long way to improving good governance for women in this sport.

The overall aim of this Committee will be to assist the FIH Executive Board (EB) to raise awareness about gender equality, inclusion and promote diversity in sports practice and governance.
