The German Womens Hockey Team were aiming to get their FIH Pro League campaign off to a winning start against the Australia Womens team but Australian Goalkeeper Rachael Lynch crushed their hopes.
The Hockeyroos maintained their strong start to the FIH Pro League with a shootout win over debutants Germany in Hobart.
Australian Goalkeeper Rachael Lynch was unbeatable. She repelled three German strikers helping Australia prevail 3-1 in the shootout, after the entertaining match finished 2-2 at fulltime.
Speaking about the performance, German Hockey Player Charlotte Stapenhorst said they were under a lot of pressure.
“The Australians were pretty nickel. But, anyone can lose in a penalty shootout.” Charlotte said.
The visitors were unlucky not to win in regular time, having had six penalty corners to Australia’s two, and dominating possession as the home side faded.
“Overall, we can draw a lot from this game and build on the performance of the last quarter when we had them completely under control.” Charlotte added
