Goals by Pia Maertens (8′) and Cecile Pieper (52′) helped the German women outclass the Black Sticks women (2-1) in their Pro League match in Krefeld
Kirsten Pearce put the New Zealand team in the lead early in the match, however Germany continued to apply significant pressure on the Black Sticks and were rewarded in the final quarter when they managed to score their two goals to secure the three points in the match.
With this victory, the German womens prospects of a top four finish very much on track.
Analysing her teams performance, Cecila Pierper said it was a good team effort.
“I thought we were sleeping in the first quarter, but then we got into our structure and started playing really well. In the end we were just pushing and pushing, as we did against GB [on Friday]. We knew we could turn the game and had the patience and the skills to do it.” she said.
