Korean women lived up to their billing and thrashed hosts Ireland 3-1 in the summit clash to win the FIH Series Finals hockey tournament in Banbridge.
Coming into the tournament as second favourites, the Korean women played like champions and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.
After a barren three quarters, Korea’s Kim Hyunji (46th minute) and Enbui Cheon (56th) scored a goal each, while Jina Kang’s (60th) was the other goal scorer for Korea.
Ireland’s lone goal was scored by Nicci Daly in the 59th minute.
Korea and Japan have already qualified for the final round of the Olympic qualifiers before the summit clash.
Analysing her teams performance, Korea’s Eunbi Cheon after her team’s win in the FIH Series Finals in Banbridge said,
“We had a Good result here and now our next aim is to qualify for Tokyo games. We will make sure that we qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”
Earlier in the day, Malaysia defeated Czech Republic 3-0 to finish third in the competition.
The top two finishers of this tournament make it to the final round of the Olympic qualifiers to be held later this year.
