The Malaysian women’s hockey team managed to get the better of French women’s hockey team and beat them (3-2) in the cross-over match of the FIH Series Finals tournament in Banbridge to set up a semi-final clash against Korea on Satuday, June 15th 2019.
The Malaysian women were dominant from the start and scored all three goals in the first quarter itself.
Malaysia rode on goals from Nuraini Abdul Rashid (5th ), Fatin Shafika Sukri (8th ) and Hanis Nadiah Onn (15th).
Delfina Gaspari (9th) and Guusje van Bolhuis (26th) scored for France.
Although Malaysia have qualified for the Semi-finals, they have a tough task in hand as they meet a tough Asian opponent – the Korean women.
Malaysia have played against Korea thrice since 2013 but have never been able to beat them.
They last met at the Women’s Donghae Asian Champions Trophy in 2018 where Korea beat them 3-1.
Malaysia’s captain Siti Ruhani said she was happy with the win but the real task begins now.
“We are happy to be through to the semi-finals but we face Korea next. It is a crucial match. We will be doing a lot of preparation before the semi-final clash.”
The Malaysia vs Korea Semi-Final clash will take place on June 15th 2019 at the Banbridge Hockey Stadium at 15:30 Irish standard time.
