India’s men’s hockey team began their FIH Series Finals campaign in an emphatic fashion, flooring Russia 10-0 in a Pool A contest at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Nilakanta Sharma opened the scoreboard for India in the 13th minute through a field goal, and from then onwards it was all India.
Dragflicker Harmanpreet scored a brace in the 32nd and 48th minute,while Amit Rohidas (20th)and Varun Kumar (34th) also scored through Penalty Corners.
Strikers Akashdeep Singh (42nd and 56th), Simranjeet Singh (19th), Gursahibijit Singh (37th) and Vivek Sagar Prasad (45th) scored through field goals to end India’s scoring in the match as Graham Reid-coached side eased to an 10-0 triumph.
For Russia, it was a tough game as it came up against a top-ranked side.
