India’s men’s hockey team began their FIH Series Finalscampaign in an emphatic fashion, flooring Russia 10-0 in a Pool A contest at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Nilakanta Sharma opened the scoreboard for India in the 13th minute through a field goal, and from then onwards it was all India.
Dragflicker Harmanpreet scored a brace in the 32nd and 48th minute,while Amit Rohidas (20th)and Varun Kumar (34th) also scored through Penalty Corners.
Strikers Akashdeep Singh (42nd and 56th), Simranjeet Singh (19th), Gursahibijit Singh (37th) and Vivek Sagar Prasad (45th) scored through field goals to end India’s scoring in the match as Graham Reid-coached side eased to an 10-0 triumph.
For Russia, it was a tough game as it came up against a top-ranked side.

The victory was monumental for Indian hockey teams captain Manpreet Singh as he marked his 250th appearance.
“The Kalinga Hockey Stadium is a very special venue for me because I have achieved two big milestones in this very stadium in front of an amazing crowd who never tire from showing their love for hockey,” Manpreet said.
“I feel very fortunate to have come this far in the sport and it could not have happened without the support of my family, teammates and support staff,” expressed Manpreet Singh.
India will take on Poland on June 7th at 19:00 hours at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium.
