India booked a place in the semi-final of the FIH Series Finals in Bhubaneswar with a 10-0 win over Uzbekistanin a goal-laden pool stage match on Monday at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium.
Akashdeep Singh (11′ 26′ 53′) hit a hat-trick, Mandeep Singh (30′ 60′) and Varun Kumar (4′ 22′) scored a brace while Amit Rohidas (15′), Nilakanta Sharma (27′) and Gursahibjit Singh (45) were also on target.
The world number five India opened the score board through Varun Kumar just four minutes into the match.
Next was Akashdeep’s turn to register his name in the scoresheet as he scored from a rebound from another short corner in the 11th minute.
Four minutes later, Rohidas converted a penalty corner to make the scoreline 3-0 in India’s favour.
The second quarter saw a glut of goals as India scored four goals with Mandeep Singh scoring just at the hooter of half-time.
The third quarter saw only one goal by Gursahibjit Singh.Akashdeep completed his hat-trick in the final quarter with the best strike of the match, while Mandeep Singh slotted in India’s tenth goal just at the end of full time.
With this win, India cruises to the semifinal after topping Pool A.
USA who topped Pool B earlier in the day after recording a 2-2 draw against Japan have also booked a semi-final sport.
