The match also saw Suguru Hoshi, celebrating his 100th cap today.
Japan’s captain Manabu Yamashita said he was pleased with the result today.
“We had a good game today. All players worked hard together and showed good mentality. We had some really nice phases in that match. Against USA, we will need to improve further our performance.” Yamashita said.
The Japanese will round off their pool engagements against USA on June 10, while South Africa will take on Mexico.
