Russia put up yet another impressive performance and beat Poland 3-2 to finish fifth in the FIH Men’s Series Finals tournament in Bhubaneswar.
World no.22 Russia scored three field goals through Pavel Golubev (16th minute), Sergey Lepeshkin (22nd) and Marat Khairullin (36th) to emerge winners.
The 21st ranked Poland did try to make a comeback through goals from Michal Kasprzyk (30th) and Mikolaj Gumny (55th) but it eventually proved too little too late.
It was Poland”s second defeat against Russia in the tournament after losing by identical margin in the pool stages.
While Russia finished fifth in the eight-team tournament, Poland had to settle with the sixth spot.
Russia’s Pavel Golubev said that they were disappointed with the finish but the team gained a lot of experience from this tournament.
“Not everything went the way we were expecting, But, we take a lot of experience from this tournament. Next time we will be better. We will prepare more and more, hopefully play more friendly matches against top-class teams and our youngsters will be better and more confident.”
