Russian women spanked Chile (5-2) in a hard fought match to progress to the semi-finals of the FIH Series Finals tournament in Hiroshima.
This was a remarkable win for Coach Svetlana Ivanovas team who lost the opening match to hosts Japan and still topped the pool.
The Chile women played good hockey in bits and pieces but were undone by Russia’s vast experience and skills.
Russia rode through goals from Kseniaa Svezhentseva (29th), Bogdana Sadovaia (39th),Anna Golubeva (49th), Dayana Yushkova (53rd), Mariia Bordolimova (56th).
Sofia Walbaum (41st), Carolina Garcia (46th) were the goal scorers for Chile who scored both goals through Penalty corners.
Analysing her teams performance, Russia Head Coach Svetlana Ivanova said she is proud of her team and happy to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
“It was a great match. Credit to the players for giving their very best.” Coach Svetlana said.
Russia will now wait for a mouth-watering semi-final clash on Satuday.
