The fourth day of the FIH Series Finals in Valencia saw the teams play their final match and marked an end to the pool stage of the tournament.
Stephanie Norlander, a key striker for the Canadian team who has been a part of the team since 2013, slammed a brace to help Canada defeat the Belarus women (3-0).
Captain Kate Wright was the other scorer for Canada.
Canada currently lead Pool A with seven points from three games. Spain have the same points but are positioned second due to their inferior goal difference.
This result means that Canada will now progress to the semi-finals directly.
Canada earned as many as 7 penalty corners as against the rivals’ three. The Canadians had 12 shots on goal while Belarus had three.
Goal scorer Stephanie Norlander was in an upbeat mood as she discussed her teams performance in the post-match interview with FIH.
“We have done a lot of training upto this point. So, to finally get here and play has been exciting. We are all happy. The Results have been good. We would have liked to see a few more goals and a little more consistency. But, overall we are pleased.” said Norlander.
Canada will play their semifinal encounter on 26th June 2019.
