The Canadian women’s hockey team are ready to take on the Italian women’s hockey team in the Semi Final of the FIH Series Finals to be played on Wednesday, 26 June 2019 in Valencia.

The Kate Wright led Canadian team have made it to the Semis as Pool A toppers after a high-scoring victory against Namibia (17-0), a clean sweep against Belarus (3-0) and an opening draw with Spain (1-1).

Italy, who finished ninth at the Hockey Women’s World Cup 2018, on the other hand have come into the Semi-Finals after beating Belarus (4-1) in the cross-over match.

In the pool stages, Italy had strong wins against against Thailand (7-0) and Wales (4-1). They lost just one match in the tournament to South Africa (1-2) to finish second in the Pool B points table.

Canada, on the other hand, have been a class apart having scored a record of 21 total goals in the tournament thus far.

They have qualified into this tournament by finishing first at the Hockey Series Open in Salamanca in 2018 having scored a record 71 total goals in the tournament.

As Canada take on Italy today, Skipper Kate Wright, who is a double centurion (214 caps ) and has played three Pan American Games, and two Commonwealth games, will ensure to keep the momentum going.

It is worthy to also note, that the world no.21 team sought crowd funding to make it to the FIH Series Finals Tournament in Valencia.

The team has been stationed in Belgium since 2018, where they play for high level clubs on the weekends and train with the national team on the weekdays.

Canada’s women hockey team last competed at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona where they finished seventh.

The Canada vs Italy action begins today at 16.45 hours (CET Time).
