In 2020 there was no election of Hockey Stars due to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the international calendar.
That is why the International Hockey Federation announced this morning that this year’s awards cover the period from January 2020 to the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which means that the 2020-21 edition of the FIH Hockey Pro League.
Another significant change came after announcing that nominations and voting for the Hockey Stars Awards will now take place around August and September of each calendar year, moving away from their traditional release period of December through January.
Following the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, a committee of experts agreed on the list of nominees.
This committee was comprised of FIH Athletes Committee Chairman Rogier Hofman, FIH Media Coordinator and journalist Sarah Juggins, Belgium’s High Performance Director of Hockey Adam Commens (chosen for the position by his peers to represent the high performing staff and coaches) and Maureen Craig-Rousseau, a member of the executive board of the FIH and who was part of the Jury of Appeal for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
Thus, Argentina was represented by Agustina Gorzelany and Agustina Albertarrio, both for the best player in the world, Belén Succi, for the best goalkeeper and the youthful Valentina Raposo for the promise of the year.
The best players in each category will be defined by the combination of the results of the online voting of the people and the athletes themselves. You can vote from August 23 to September 15 at http://www.fih.ch/events/hockey-stars-awards/hockey-stars-2021/vote/ and the winners will be known only towards the end September or early October.
