Under the chants of the French supporters present in Italy, the players of the French team face for the first time, since Gaël Foulard is head-coach of the collective, Ireland vice reigning world champion.

Following a very good 2nd place obtained in Prague, the Blue have the opportunity to challenge the biggest nations by rubbing shoulders with the Irish for this first day. And it must be said that the players of the France team fought quite a fight.

The first period is balanced, although the Irish were more dangerous and especially the first to distinguish themselves. The two teams got a try from the Petit Corner but it was Mathilde Pétriaux who saved hers at the end of the period (15 ‘).

It was after the break that things changed. Roisin Upton opens the scoring on Petit Corner (33 ‘). Despite two PCs on the French side, the score does not change and the Irish lead 1-0 after 45 minutes. Les Bleues stand up to the 12th world team.

The last quarter is very animated since the French women discover a little more to try to equalize and face experienced players. The Irish scored twice, including once on Petit Corner. Full of self-sacrifice, the Blue came back to the game with a PC transformed into two stages by Guusje Van Bolhuis (54 ‘).

Despite the reduction of the gap, Ireland scored again (55 ‘) and won the quarter-final with a score of 4 goals to 1.

The result is severe for the valiant Blues who have shown that they have passed a great stage and can now compete with the teams of the higher level.

The progression is there and the players coached by Gaël Foulard will continue their tournament from Friday 2pm against Russia who lost 7 goals to 1 against Belarus .
