The FIH Pro League is coming to Mönchengladbach: From April 24th to 30th, the German women’s and men’s national teams will be playing their games on the new turf in the hockey park.
“The sport of field hockey is not only a tradition, but also a living presence in Mönchengladbach”, said Dr. med. Gert Fischer, city councilor for education, culture, sport. “We are very happy to host matches of this international hockey league again.”
The artificial turf at the stadium has been replaced as per the quality planned for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
In October 2018, EWMG began dismantling and initiated civil engineering work to improve the drainage capacity of the subsoil. Then the new artificial turf including elastic layer was laid, which was then certified by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
“Investing in the place is worth it,” said Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus, Chairman of the EWMG Management Board. “The hockey stadium is a figurehead for Mönchengladbach. With games series such as the Pro League, it is back in focus internationally and thus has appeal for the entire city. ”
“We find optimal conditions here for the league and enthusiastic hockey fans,” added DHB President Wolfgang Hillmann.
