As Hockey India’s National camp kickstarts today at the Sports Authority of India campus in Bengaluru, Coach Graham Reid will be looking to raise the teams bar in all aspects of the game, keeping in mind their qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Let’s see how.
Firstly, Review their performance at the FIH Men’s Series Finals Tournament:
Coach Graham Reid said he will first review the teams previous performance at the FIH Men’s Series Final and discuss the shortcomings and how they can collectively improve the performance in the lead up to the Olympic Qualification in October/November
Secondly, Close Monitoring the team
Graham along with the support staff will be closely monitoring the progress of every player during the national camp.
Finally, Preparing for a Game-up
Graham Reid said the next few months are very important for the team and he will do everything to raise the bar in all aspects of the game.
He said he is expecting 100 per cent commitment in return from them in the six-week long national camp.
The six week long camp will conclude on August 11.
Next up for India
It is commendable that Hockey India (HI) are leaving no stone unturned to make sure India – both men‘s and women‘s teams qualify for the next year’s Olympic Games.
Last week, Dutch GK Trainer Dennis Van De Pol, was in the camp to train the Indian Men’s Team Goalkeepers and today two-time World Cup winner Fergus Kavanagh has arrived in Bengaluru, to work with the Indian Team defenders from 8 July 2019 to 14 July 2019.
India – both the men‘s and the women‘s team have qualified for the next and final round of the qualifiers by finishing first at the FIH Series Finals tournament.
They will compete in a final playoff match in October/November to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
After the camp, the Indian team will travel to Japan for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Test Event starting August 17, where they will face hosts Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand.
