The Indian Men’s Hockey Team will play their first match on the Australia tour against WA Thundersticks here on Wednesday.

In what will be the team’s first tour under newly-appointed Chief Coach Graham Reid, the Manpreet Singh led side will also play two matches against Australia A followed by two matches against Australian National Team.

Manpreet Singh believes playing against a quality opponent like WA Thundersticks will allow the team to implement the new style and try different combinations Chief Coach Graham Reid has introduced and formulated since his arrival.

“This tour should definitely help us in putting plans in action that Chief Coach has introduced the team to. Playing against a side like WA Thundersticks which has been so successful in the competitive Australian Hockey League will keep us in good stead and give us an idea on what we need to work on for the crucial season ahead,” stated Manpreet Singh on the eve of the match.

With the all-important FIH Men’s Series Finals Bhubaneswar Odisha 2019 to follow just after this tour, the team will look to find its groove here and get the momentum going.

“The boys look in good spirits since our arrival here in Perth. Playing against this team will further help us to find the right combinations and give some of the youngsters a good platform. We are raring to showcase what we are capable against a team as gritty as WA Thundersticks,” he added.

The match will be played at 15:30 Hrs IST on May 8 2019.
