With the Odisha Men’s Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017 scheduled for this year and Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Champions Trophy and Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 slated for next year, 2017 and 2018 is crucial for the Indian Hockey Team.

Ace India forward SV Sunil feels with good results in these tournaments, it is a realistic goal for the Indian team to make it to the top three position in the world.

“We are currently ranked No.6 in the world. It’s a good improvement from being placed 12th or 13th about four years ago. I feel if we keep up our performances and show good results, we have a very good chance of improving our ranking and the aim is definitely to reach world ranking of top 3,” stated Sunil.

The key changes in the squad is the return of Birender Lakra & Rupinder Pal. Seasoned campaigner and former Captain Sardar Singh has been dropped out.

The Squad:

Goalkeepers: Akash Chikte, Seraj Kerkera.

Defenders: Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Dipsan Tirkey, Varun Kumar, Rupinder Pal Singh, Birendra Lakra.

Midfielders: Manpreet Singh (captain), Chinglensana Singh, S.K. Uthappa, Sumit, Kothajit Singh.

Forwards: S. V. Sunil, Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Gurjant.
