Japan head coach Siegfried Aikman is looking forward to getting his players back to regular routine after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Test event, as their 10-day national team begins this week in Tokyo.
Although Japan will not play at the upcoming final Olympic qualifier round, since they have already secured their Tokyo 2020 berth, Coach Siegfried wants his team to continue to be in top form.
Recently, Japan had produced a spirited performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Test event finishing with a bronze. Earlier in June, the team finished third again at the FIH Hockey Series Finals 2019 in India.
Coach Siegfried will use this National camp to evaluate his teams performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Test event and will identify the areas for improvement.
The camp will also feature a 5-day specialised goalkeeping camp conducted by double Olympian Salman Akbar.
Salman, a former Goalkeeper and Captain of the Pakistan hockey team captain, is an experienced and qualified goalkeeping coaching, and is the founder of the SGK Goalkeeping Academy in the Netherlands.
This is Salman’s sixth goalkeeping coaching assignment with the Japan men’s hockey team, in a span of one and and a half year.
