🇦🇷 Argentina Club Hockey : La Salle HC and Banco Provincia crowned Argentine Champions

For four days, Rosario hosted the most important club competition in the country. After a year without competition as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, little by little and with all the corresponding health protocols, national activity was gradually resumed. It is thus, that this afternoon the contest culminated in which eight teams of women and eight of men participated. La Salle HC de Córdoba and Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires, climbed to the top of the podium in ladies and gentlemen, respectively.

The ladies’ final was starred by La Salle HC and Murialdo. The Cordovan team and brand new champion, acceded to the decisive instance after leaving Gymnastics and Fencing of Buenos Aires on the way in the semifinals. After equaling 0 to 0 in regular time against the menssanas, those led by Nicolás Coelho were effective in shootouts and secured their place in the definition. For his part, Murialdo did the same against Jockey de Rosario. Draw 1 to 1 in the semis and definition by Australian penalties: superior effectiveness for the Mendoza team.

Thus, the finalists arrived who in a close final failed to draw differences and had to force the definition on penalties. After two goalless quarters, in the 35th minute came the opening of the scoreboard for the Cordoba through Sofía Funes, from a short corner. Murialdo was quick to react and three minutes later equaled the result with Giuliana Castronovo’s score. Already at the end of the third quarter, Murialdo was the one who went ahead in the score with the conversion of Camila Escudero. Despite the disadvantage, La Salle did not give up and after 50 minutes they took advantage of a new fixed play arranged by María Pía Gazal.

With no more time left to play, the champion was defined by shoot out where the Cordoba team won 4 to 3 with the executions of Martine Quetglas (2), Valeria Agostinetti and Sofía Funes.

In the fight for bronze, GEBA beat Jockey Rosario 3 to 1 with goals from Victoria Paz, Milagros Ghigliazza and Abril Rayer.

The scorers : Eugenia Etulain (Sportiva) and Sofía Funes (La Salle) were the top scorers of the contest with six conversions each.

Final positions : 1st LA SALLE HC, 2nd MURIALDO, 3rd GEBA, 4th JOCKEY ROSARIO, 5th S. SPORTIVA, 6th UNSJ, 7th GER and 8th PROVINCIAL BANK.


ARGENTINO DE CLUBES “A” CABALLEROS: BANCO PROVINCIA, UNINTENDED CHAMPION!

In the men’s final, Banco Provincia prevailed with solvency against the Jockey Club de Córdoba. It was a 3-1 victory with a hat-trick from Gonzalo Merino.

The brand new champion had reached the decisive instance undefeated and in the final he did not waver. With three victories in the group stage and a defeat in the semifinals against Murialdo, 8-0, those led by Matías Vila came sharply into the fight for the title.

For its part, the Cordoba team also arrived without defeats in the final match. Three victories in zone A and a 3 to 1 victory against Independiente, placed him as one of the favorites of the national competition.

In the final, Banco Provincia did not spare its rival and after five minutes it took advantage of the hand of Merino, who capitalized on the first fixed play. Already in the third quarter, the forward of Vicente López’s team appeared again to stretch the difference in the same way (36 ‘). On the closing of the partial, of penal, wrote down the third to his personal account and the transitory 3 to 0. Despite the efforts of the Cordovan Jockey, who barely achieved the discount 11 minutes from the end through Santiago Dahbar, he could not alter the score and thus those led by Manuel Rivera had to settle for the silver medal.

In the fight for third place, Murialdo took bronze after beating Independiente de Tandil by the slightest difference and the score by Matías Cattaneo.

The scorer:Gonzalo Merino, champion with Banco Provincia and author of the three goals in the final, was the top scorer with 12 scores throughout the tournament.
