The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced the group’s for the Men’s Finals Series, Kuala Lumpur 2019, which sees the country’s squad placed in Group B with China, Italy and Brazil.
The tournament which will open the curtain on April 26 to May 4, 2019 at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium also see the withdrawal of the Vanuatu team who were supposed to be in Group A with Austria, Canada and Wales and FIH will announce team replacing Vanuatu in time closest.
Head Coach, Roelant Oltmans does not want to underestimate the ability of the opposing team and explained that the best preparation will be made by the national squad to ensure they managed to finish the tournament in the top two.
“In the tournament like the FIH Hockey Series Final we cannot underestimate the ability of the opposing team and of course we will do the best preparation especially since we are drawn in the same group with China where we are aware of China’s good performance shown at World Cup 2018.”
“In addition we have not met the Italian and Brazilians for a long time so we have to get as much information about the two teams and certainly we will do the best preparation as we did in previous tournaments.”
“Most importantly we have to finish the group stage as champion as the group champions do not have to go through the quarterfinals to grab the semifinals spot.”
“We want to step into the semi-final because our first target is definitely to emerge as the two best teams in the final and the second goal will certainly end this tournament as champion,” he explained when met.
