Malaysia’s hockey squad guard Mohd Hairi Abdul Rahman has been summoned as one of the replacement of S. Kumar who was asked to rest for two months following a thigh muscle injury ahead of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Perak next month.
Hairi is seen as a player who will replace Kumar’s place as the country’s leading 39-year-old goalkeeper has to forget the rivalry in Ipoh following the serious injuries suffered.
For Hairi, whether or not to want, the national squad still needs to continue without Kumar and he is confident of the ability of other goalkeepers in the national team.
“All the players need to be prepared in any situation, so when we find out Kumar is injured, other players need to be ready for the next game,” he said.
At the same time, he also stressed the competition to take the lead in the squad with another goalkeeper, Hafizuddin Othman, will go down well and he is delighted with the process.
“Competition is good, we give each other motivation to get the best action for the country.”
