Roelant Oltmans, head coach of the Malaysian hockey squad, isn’t panicking with the loss of four main players due to injuries.
He feels it wouldn’t affect the chances of reaching the target for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup final in Ipoh, Perak, beginning March 23.
Oltmans believes it a great opportunity to bring young players in.
Among the injured are, Sukri Mutalib, S. Kumar (goalkeeper), Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan and Mohd Najib Abu Hassan (defence).
The quality of young players is no much different, especially the four players who joined on the first day of the national training camp in Bukit Jalil.
“It’s a chance to highlight the young players in the squad,” Oltmans said.
Young players brought in to the national squad are Mohd Akhimullah Anuar Esook, Muhammad Arif Syafie Ishak, Muhammad Noor Firdaus Rosdi and Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal.
The Malaysian squad are currently in Kuantan, Pahang for their training camp until March 16.
They will be getting a touch of former Dutch penalty corner striker Taeke Taekema to sharpen their skills.
