The previously postponed Malaysia Indoor Hockey League will meet fans on 10 to 19 December 2021 and the matter was confirmed by the Chairman of the Indoor Hockey Committee and Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, Mr Shurizan Mansor, today.
The inaugural tournament will be held as a carnival, according to the one -group league format and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, (UPSI), Tanjong Malim, Perak has been chosen as the venue for the tournament.
A total of nine (9) men’s teams and six (6) women’s teams will take part in the competition which was first introduced by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).
League competitions will also be organized according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and UPSI to ensure the tournament is held safely.
According to the Chairman of the Indoor Hockey Committee and Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, Mr Shurizan Mansor, after several times having to postpone the tournament due to constraints including the Covid-19 pandemic, he hoped the inaugural event would take place according to schedule.
“After several delays, we hope this tournament can be realized despite the number of teams participating on a small scale. We hope this tournament will be a catalyst to further elevate the sport of Indoor Hockey itself.
“We plan to organize this tournament annually and one of our goals to organize this tournament is to attract more people out there to play this sport.
“I hope with a month left before the tournament, the teams that have confirmed their participation will do their best to ensure that great competition can be given in this tournament.
“The organization of this tournament will also be used as a platform to find players who can wear the national team jersey where the Indoor Hockey Asian Cup Championship is scheduled to take place in March next year. So this tournament is one of the platforms for the selection of national players to be done, ”he said who also hoped that this inaugural event would also be a starting point to attract sponsors to become sponsor partners in the future.
