Kelly Jonker, 168-time international (68 goals), has told national coach Alyson Annan to put an end to her international career immediately.
The 29-year-old attacker who made her debut for the Orange on April 7, 2008, is expecting.
“My pregnancy came as a surprise for me and my husband, but we are very happy with it. Of course, until recently my goal was to participate with TeamNL in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, ” Kelly states
At the moment it feels a bit strange that that ambition is suddenly over. But I get something so beautiful in return, it’s more than worth it. Fortunately, Alyson and the team immediately responded enthusiastically. Everyone, both at Orange and at my club Amsterdam, is happy for me, ” said Kelly.
Her pregnancy puts an end to a great career of more than ten years at Oranje. With the Dutch National Women’s Team, Jonker became Olympic (2008 – as reserve, and 2012), world champion (2014 and 2018) and European champion (2017 and 2019).
“I had a fantastic time with the Dutch national team, but that is now coming to an end,” Jonker continues.
“I will not return to Oranje after my pregnancy. I have not yet decided what I will do at Amsterdam. I will make a decision about this later in the summer of 2020. Now I will first focus on the coming period. “
The Dragflick wishes the soon-to-be mommy the very best for all her future endeavours.
