The Kookaburras are coming to the 2019 Oceania Cup with only one thing in mind: winning.
Having defeated 2018 world champions Belgium and finishing first at the FIH Pro League 2019 – earlier this June, there is a belief running among the Kookaburras, that they will walk away with a win at the upcoming Oceania Cup 2019 and that the Olympic berth is within reach.
The team will however miss the services of Trent Mitton who recovering from an hamstring injury. Fellow Daniel Beale too, is awaiting his fitness clearance but that hardly matters at this point, since the rest of the squad are very honed in on what their job is.
Speaking about the squad selection Coach Colin Batch stated :
“We have got a very good squad with a lot of depth and we’ve used that throughout the Pro League, so in this instance we have picked a team to win the Oceania Cup.”
Batch also said he is very proud of how his team is aligned together in purpose, principles, and values.
“One of the fundamentals of the success we have enjoyed over the last three years is that the team has a very united-front,” said Batch.
Whoever you put in front of them, they’re looking to knock them down. They’re here to win.
The Oceania Cup 2019 will take place in Rockhampton starting 5th September 2019 and will see Australia and New Zealand contest for the top spot. The winner will also book their Tokyo 2020 Olympic berth.
