The German women’s hockey teams have discovered their opponent that will stand between them and a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The German women ( ranked 4th in the world) are all set to welcome the Italian women’s hockey team ( ranked 17th in the world) at the Sparkassen Park in Mönchengladbach on 2nd and 3rd November 2019 in what is the final opportunity for teams to qualify for the Olympics.
Against the Italians, the German women’s hockey team had last competed in two friendly matches in 2018 in Dortmund, registering one one win and one loss.
As a part of the preparation, the DANAS will be able to come together only for a short duration to train. Their first training will be from October 6th to 8th and then from October 21st to 25th 2019.
“The other teams in the Olympics qualifying round have three weeks of preparation in a row. We cannot do that as we do not want it to clash with the Bundesliga,” said Germany women’s national coach Xavier Reckinger.
The German women’s hockey team also climbed one stair higher on the world ranking table as per the latest updated FIH rankings.
While the coach did say they won’t have much time to train, but that hardly matters since they have played back-to-back matches since the start of the year, securing a third place finish at the FIH Pro League earlier in June and a second place finish at the Euro Hockey Championship 2019 in Belgium.
