The USA women’s hockey team are all set to travel to India to play two back-to-back matches against the Indian women’s hockey team for the ‘Final Olympic Qualifier’ round that is scheduled to take place in Odisha, Bhubaneswar on 1st and 2nd November 2019.
This is an exciting opportunity for the USA women’s hockey team to not only book a spot for Tokyo 2020 but also fight for it at one of the biggest hockey nations of the world – India.
The team will most likely be led by 29-year old Captain Kathleen Sharkey. Kathleen is an experienced player and has played 172 caps for Team USA.
While India have qualified for this round after claiming the title victory at the FIH Series Finals 2019 in Hiroshima, the USA women’s hockey teams have qualified only on the basis of their current ranking and points.
The USA women’s hockey team were last seen at the Pan American Games 2019 in Lima where they finished with a bronze.
They were also participants at the FIH Pro League 2019 tournament, where although they had a bottom finish, they were able to gain valuable experience playing against some of the top nations of the world.
The World Ranked 13 American team are placed four places below India (ranked 9). But in the last three encounters the USA women’s hockey team have always troubled India.
