Secretary of Pakistan Hockey Federation Shahbaz Senior, said that the national game has been facing major issues, but the Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination has assured him to release funds for the revival of hockey.

During a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore, he addressed various issues of Pakistan Hockey team since the last few months and also mentioned the performance of the team.

“The lack of funds is bad for the image of the National game, players work hard, they should know whether they are going to play the tournament or not. If the team doesn’t perform well, it’s the responsibility of coaches not the secretary of the federation,” he said.

“I’m here for the betterment of Hockey and keen to make the image of Pakistan better in the World of hockey, I’d try that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will not impose the ban on Pakistan,” he said.

”We will make a pool of under-23 players for the preparation of the Olympics. We had held trials everywhere but couldn’t find any talent in Pakistan. The level of the fitness of players is not at the international level,” he added.

He further added that the federation doesn’t have funds, the players are unemployed and are not paid for the international matches. “If the government will give funds so we can bring the developmental trainers from Australia and New Zealand.

Twelve international players agreed to come for the Pakistan Hockey Super League but they can’t come due to lack of funds, if any sponsor is ready to take responsibility of the expenses then they would come to Pakistan,” he said.

“Around 2.5 million are required for the congress meeting that is to be held at the end of this month. The federation ha to run in a professional manner to take the national game up,” he added.
