While fans will have to wait to see the finalised hockey venue for the Tokyo 2020 Games, hockey players and coaches got a taste of the Hockey Olympic venue at the Oi Hockey Stadium during this week’s READY STEADY TOKYO Hockey Test Event.
Eight teams had been invited to participate in this event. India – the Men & the Women’s teams took home a double “Gold”.
For the players and officials, it not only gave them a feel for the venue but other aspects including dealing with the heat during a Tokyo summer.
“The Oi Hockey Stadium is a remarkable facility to boost the development of hockey in Japan. I invite all hockey fans to come and see matches in this venue and I urge them to invite their families and friends to come as well and share their passion.” FIH CEO Thierry Weil said.
This Oi Hockey Stadium is built inside the Oi Central Seaside Park Sports Forest.
The new facility has two hockey pitches covered by artificial turf. Each is 63 meters wide and 101 meters long.
The Oi Hockey Stadium can hold up to 15,000 spectators.
The venue will remain after the Olympics as a multi-purpose sports facility. It is also designed to be used for football and lacrosse games.
