An impressive Japanese men’s hockey team claimed the ‘Bronze’ at the Olympic Test event here on Wednesday, defeating Malaysia by a huge margin of (6-1).

Japan are World ranked 18th, while Malaysia stand 12th on the World Ranking table.

Hirotaka Zendana (32′, 56′) and Yoshiki Kirishita (39′, 45+’) scored a brace each while, Kenta Tanaka (  43′) and Kota Watanabe (33′) too scored for Japan at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.

Shahril Saabah scored the lone goal for Malaysia in the 30th minute.

Head Coach Siegfried Aikman said he was happy with his teams performance.

“I’m very proud of the players who went deep in their desire to perform. It was a good tournament for us and moving forward we will only try to keep progressing,” Coach Siegfried said.

Japan Captain Manabu Yamashita, too was excited post winning the bronze and said it was double delight as he got the opportunity to play in front of the home crowd.

“Our aim was to play well as we have been really training hard. We would have preferred a better finish, but we are happy to claim the ‘Bronze’ in front of the home crowd.” Manabu said.

Japan had beaten Malaysia in the round robin league-stage by (3-1).
