Rutgers field hockey freshman Lucy Bannatyne earned her second weekly award of the season, as she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Bannatyne had her first collegiate assist at a big moment on Sunday, as she set up the game-winning goal in a 1-0, double-overtime victory over Indiana. With just 30 seconds left in the frame, Bannatyne received the ball at the back post, held off the goalkeeper at her back, and slotted across a perfect pass to an open Gianna Mancini for the game-winning score.

The Auckland, New Zealand native has started all 11 games this season, making an immediate impact with four goals and one assist. She shares the team lead in goals with three others, and is third on the team in points. She was previously named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after the opening weekend of competition, when she scored goals in each of her first two collegiate games in wins over No. 12 Duke and Richmond. In addition to Bannatyne’s two honors, fellow freshmen Iris Langejans and Guillermina Causarano have earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards this season. Kerrie Burns also was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, giving RU five weekly awards this season.

Rutgers is 9-2 overall, sitting at fifth nationally in the NCAA RPI and 6th in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. RU has set program records with seven ranked wins and five ranked road wins, and shares the nation’s lead in road victories.
