Scotland’s women have been named the Team of the Year at the prestigious Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards.
The award comes after the team won a gold medal at the EuroHockey Championship II back in August in front of a home crowd in Glasgow, winning every game along the way. That result also secured them promotion back to the top tier for 2021.
Furthermore they also beat World Cup silver medallists Ireland in the lead up to that tournament and have had four players – Sarah Robertson, Amy Costello, Nicki Cochrane and Charlotte Watson – play for GB in 2019.
This is the second such award the team has won in recent weeks after they were also named the Team of the Year at the Scottish Women in Sport Awards.
Scottish Hockey’s CEO David Sweetman said: “This is a fantastic success for hockey, and I’d like to congratulate the Scotland women’s team and staff on winning such a prestigious award. The recognition is fantastic for the sport and demonstrates how great an achievement the squad’s successes have been over the last year.
“Women’s EuroHockey Championship II was an amazing tournament in Glasgow with the biggest crowds since Glasgow 2014. Scotland winning the tournament was really special and it’s great to see this recognised in the awards the team has been winning.”
