The Catalan city of Terrassa is among the four finalists to host the 2022 Men’s Field Hockey World. The candidacy presented by the Royal Spanish Federation will compete with those of Germany, Malaysia and India.
The Olympic Stadium of Terrassa would be the seat of the championship, as sources of the RFEH have confirmed to HockeyESP.
This stadium, with a capacity for 11,500 extendable people, has already hosted the grass hockey competition during the Olympic Games of Barcelona 92, when the Spanish women’s team won the gold medal.
The candidacy of Terrassa, in case of winning, would host the Men’s World Cup between July 1 and July 17, 2022, and would mean the automatic classification of the Redsticks for the competition.
The other candidates choose to organise it on the same dates, except the headquarters of India that would do so from January 13 to 29, 2023.
The federations that are candidates to organise the Women’s World Cup are Germany, from July 1 to 17, 2022; Australia, India and New Zealand, between January 13 and 29, 2023.
The final decision on both venues will be taken at the executive board of the FIH, scheduled for the month of June 2019.
