A special ‘Legends’ match will be held to mark the 15th Anniversary of Australia’s gold medal victory in Athens alongside the 2019 Oceania Cup in Rockhampton.
The match will be featuring thirteen members of the Kookaburras Olympic Gold Medal winning team of 2004 along with home grown heroes Mark Knowles and Jamie Dwyer.
The legend line up will also feature Olympian Matt Gohdes.
Dubbed one of the best hockey teams of all time, the Kookaburras of 2004 delivered Australia its first hockey gold medal, in extra time.
The Kookaburras had lost three previous Olympic finals after making it to the semi-finals and beyond in eight of their last nine appearances at the Summer Games since Tokyo in 1964.
Before the 2004 victory, the Australians had won three silver and three bronze medals in previous Games, losing in the gold medal round to Pakistan (Mexico City 1968), New Zealand (Montreal 1976) and Germany (Barcelona 1992).
The legendary line up will play against a local invitational team on September 5th 2019, at 8:00pm, after the first test match between Australia and New Zealand.
